Trust Fall (Week 1): “The Call of God”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – Genesis 12:1-9

Redemption Bible Church starts a new series this week entitled “Trust Fall,” an examination of the story of Abraham in Genesis. Pastor Jason Mayhall explains how God calls Abraham out of where he was living, instructing him to leave everything that was comfortable and familiar. God tells Abraham that He will make his name great and make a great nation, blessing those who bless him as he and his people start to travel to Canaan. God seeks, through this example, to show how He asks us to sacrifice in the present — Give up things we are comfortable with because of the rewards to follow. A follower of God is asked to submit our lives and accept His grace and initiative into our lives, like Abraham. Further, while it can be difficult as humans to submit, we are asked to forego the credit of making something of our lives, but rather look inward and ask whether we’re able to give God full credit for our successes. Our successes are all dependent on Him. Finally, we must recognize that our blessings should be passed on, as God asks us to step out of our comfort zone and trust in God’s word.
