A Skeptic’s Guide to Church (Week 3): “The Ministry of Confrontation”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – Titus 1:10-16

Pastor Jason Mayhall leads Redemption Bible Church in the continuation of the sermon series entitled “A Skeptic’s Guide to Church,” a look at what makes a vibrant and inviting church environment. Jesus’ sacrifice brings life where we were once dead, but those unfamiliar with the gospel may be easily led astray by false teaching. How can we show grace when someone is teaching false doctrine, leading people away from the gospel of Jesus? Pastor Jason teaches, with the context given in Paul’s letter to Titus, that in these cases grace can be given by confronting the ones who are leading others astray. This takes courage, but with Scripture revealing the truth, we can confront the false teachers with confidence that what they are leading people toward is not the truth of the gospel. Anything in addition to Jesus’ sacrifice is an attempt to take power away from Jesus, who alone has paid the price for our salvation. Confrontation is having grace enough to cut, in order to cure the false teaching from infecting those who are not yet familiar with Scripture. God’s grace is a gift, and we should extend it to each other, by sharing the truth of the gospel.
