The Holy Spirit (Week 5): “The Gifts of the Spirit”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – Ephesians 4:7-16

Pastor Jason Mayhall continues the series on “The Holy Spirit,” and how He works in our lives, at Redemption Bible Church. This week, Pastor Jason delves into the spiritual gifts we possess, as God grants each believer different abilities to bless and serve others. In this way, communities grow to look more like Jesus and meet the needs around us. Gifts are not about our character, but the fruit of the Spirit, such as our patience or self control. Gifts of the Spirit are what we do for God, be it communicating the truth or bearing burdens for others. It is important for everyone to discover his or her gifts as we each can help those around us mature in the worship of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit (Week 3): “The Filling of the Spirit”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – Ephesians 5:15-21

Pastor Jason Mayhall leads Redemption Bible Church in learning more about “The Holy Spirit,” and describes what it means to be filled with the Spirit. We are encouraged to look at whether we have been filled with it. Pastor Jason describes the difference between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and being filled with it. A key concept is that we cannot fill ourselves. We need to be filled by the Holy Spirit by yielding our lives and submitting to God. The degree to which we can yield our lives to God is the degree to which we will be filled with the Spirit. When we are filled with the Spirit we can be thankful for all of the things around us as we know we have access to the power of God.

The Holy Spirit (Week 2): “Walking in the Spirit”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – Galatians 5:13-26; John 16:5-15

Redemption Bible Church continues the new series about “The Holy Spirit,” led by Pastor Jason Mayhall. The intent is to gain a biblical understanding of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit’s primary purpose is to transform us into the image of Christ so that we might bear “fruit” for God. The Spirit is in our lives to free us from addictions to the things in our lives that take us away from God. He frees us to change, to be transformed, and He exposes us to the reality of sin. The reality that the root of sin comes from us lacking faith, lacking belief. We must also recognize that life is a roller coaster, and walking with the Spirit takes practice. We must practice loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. We must recognize that the Holy Spirit exposes us to the requirement of righteousness and the redemption of judgment. In the end, the Spirit is there to remind us that judgment is imminent and if we follow the way God wants us to represent Him, we will begin to live a more joyful, more faithful life.

The Holy Spirit (Week 1): “Who is the Spirit?”

Jason Mayhall, Lead Pastor – John 14:16-26

Redemption Bible Church starts a new sermon series focusing on “The Holy Spirit.” Pastor Jason Mayhall explains how the Holy Spirit is a challenging concept for many people to internalize. The Spirit can be a confusing topic to discuss with people. It can be unclear, to many, with how He fills the lives of believers in Christ and gives us gifts to serve. The way Pastor Jason describes it is to think of the Holy Spirit as a person. The Holy Spirit is a divine holy resident in a person’s heart. It’s not something we can control. He is in our lives to provide comfort and encouragement. He is there to counsel us and be an advocate for us in the eyes of God. He brings understanding to our lives through the Bible. We all come to God with things going on in our lives. The Spirit is there to lead us, to draw us toward God’s salvation.
